Zaragoza, Spain - The Aljafería Palace

I've always been fascinated by oriental cultures so I was very excited when I realized that one of the greatest monuments of Zaragoza was this Arab palace from 11th century, called Aljafería. Although it's not as impressive as its "big sister", La Alhambra in Granada, it's a true medieval gem that survived many kingdoms, from various Moorish dynasties, to Catholic Monarchs. Today is the center of Aragon's parliament and it inspired Verdi's opera Il Trovatore. Although the palace has many different parts, my favorite is the inner court dedicated to Santa Isabel, the infant of Aragón and the queen of Portugal in 13th century. I could have spent hours and hours looking at the incredibly carved arches and sitting below one of the orange trees but we had only few hours left before taking the train back to Barcelona. This little weekend trip virtually ends here with the photos of the palace and few spots from city center that I didn't show you last time. I hope you enjoyed and maybe learned something new :)

    1. Thank you, Sophie! :) Yes, it's a gorgeous city. Well, this is actually near my city so it's not really complicated, but anyway, traveling is one of my priorities and when you really want something, you find a way to do it. Besides that, many times we think we need to go far away in order to travel, but the truth is that almost everybody can discover its own area and take a train or whatever to some nearby little town, for example. As you said, our world is amazing but we need to decide to see it and discover it ;)

  18. Aljaferia palace looks stunning and I see a lot of Arabic accents in this building, personally I also like to visit places, which have oriental vibe ;) Backing to the castle - I adore garden, it's terrific. And you look so pretty, Tijana in this little black airy dress, it's perfect for Spring :) Glad to hear that you enjoyed the trip!

    1. And we have another thing in common! :) Yes, Arabs really knew how to design castles and gardens and I'm happy that I can enjoy that oriental vibe without going far away. Yes, I had a slightly different idea about the dress but it was so cold but I'm happy that you liked it :) Thank you so much!

Tvoji komentari mi jako mnogo znače i upotpune bilo koju temu :)
      Hvala ti od oboje! :)
