Zaragoza, Spain: Day 1 & Fun facts

1. Zaragoza is located in north-eastern Spain, between Madrid and Barcelona and with 666 000 inhabitants, it's the 5th biggest city in Spain.
2. It's the capital of Aragón and located on the banks of river Ebro, one of the biggest rivers in Spain.
3. The name Zaragoza comes from ancient Roman name Ceasaraugusta.
4. The symbol of the city is a great baroque temple called Basilica de Nuestra Señora de Pilar (Our Lady of the Pillar). The legend says that the virgin Mary appeared in the 1st century, standing on a pillar (hence the name Pilar).
5. It's the only christian temple that has symbols of taoism. The temple was bombarded in 1936, however, the bombs didn't explode.
6. The famous Spanish painter, Francisco Goya was closely related to Zaragoza and there are many sites around the city dedicated to him, including his own legacy such as paintings in the interior of the Basilica's cupola.
7. Aljafería, another symbol of Zaragoza, is the northern Arabic palace in the world (you'll see it in my next post).
8. First Spanish movie (Salida de Misa del Pilar) took place in Zaragoza in 1896, only one year after the cinema was invented.
9. There has been several paranormal activities in the city and urban legends, such as the case of the Elf of Zaragoza, a ghost that lives in one of the towers and a haunted room 510 of hotel Corona de Aragón, whose guests mysteriously died in fire.
10. The highlight of Zaragoza's history was the 16th century, when the city was called "Spanish Florence" and the "city of hundred towers".

Esp

  27. Joj kako ja volim ovakve postove :) Prekul su mi uvijek volim saznati koju više o nekom gradu/mjesto! Ipak, preko tebe sam saznala toliko toga da imam pravi mali kušlus u glavi od svih tih informacija o Španjolskoj općenito, ali ipak- bring it on!:)
Posebno mi je zanimljiva činjenica kako niti jedna bomba nije eksplodirala za vrijeme bombardiranja bazilike... baš lijepo! Također,vjerujem da bi i mene ludo zaintrigirale sve one misterije pod točkom devet! :)
Ti si predivna u crvenom, a uvijek uživam vidjeti tebe i Ulija zajedno, uvijek ste tako lijepi i modno usklađeni... ja pomalo patim na to, jer mi to nikako ili rijetko imamo :P Divan posT! :****

Hvala ti!
