Serbia #1: Belgrade by the blue Danube

The Blue Danube as Johann Strauss called it. Red rooftops. Romantic towers. Old streets and houses, perfect in their own imperfection. A bunch of swans. Ice cream and popcorn vendors. Dogs jumping into the river. Restaurants with perfect views. Summer breeze in a terribly hot day. Family dinner in Zemun, a part of Belgrade, my hometown, and the beginning of this quick little visit and our Serbian road trip. An Irish proverb says that home is where the heart is and although I've been leaving pieces of my heart all over the world, there is one big part of it which will stay here forever, in Serbia, the country where I first realized how beautiful is our world :)

El Danubio Azul como dijo Johann Strauss. Un montón de techos rojos interrumpidos por un par de torres románticas. Paseo por estas calles y casas que guardan los secretos de los siglos anteriores, tan perfectos en su imperfección. Muchísimos cisnes y muchos vendedores de helados y palomitas. Un perro que quiere saltar al río. Todos los restaurantes tienen unas vistas perfectas. La brisa de verano en un día demasiado caluroso. Una cena con la familia en Zemun, esta parte de Belgrado, la ciudad dond nací y el comienzo de esta pequeña escapada serbia. Un proverbio irlandés dice que la casa está donde está el corazón y yo que he ido dejando mi corazón alrededor del mundo, guardo su gran parte en Serbia, el país que fue el primero que me enseñó lo bonito que es el mundo :)

Na lepom plavom Dunavu kako bi rekao Johan Štraus. Crveni krovovi. Romantične kule. Ulice i kuće vekovima stare, savršene u svoj toj nesavršenosti. Gomila labudova. Po koji pas koji skače u reku. Prodavci sladoleda i kokica. Restorani sa savršenim pogledom. Letnji povetarac kao osveženje u vrelom danu. Porodična večera sa ljudima koje volim najviše na svetu. Zemun, deo Beograda, grada u kojem sam rođena i koji oduvek zovem svojim. Početak ovog kratkog putovanja po Srbiji. Poznata irska izreka kaže da je dom tamo gde je srce, a ja iako sam svoje srce ostavljala širom sveta, čuvam jedan njegov veliki deo baš ovde, u zemlji koja mi je baš kako kažu stihovi Čika Jove Zmaja, prva pokazala "al je lep ovaj svet." :)
